Because it's designed for IOT, that's much closer to what we're looking for.
Ubuntu Core | Ubuntu Believe Ubuntu core has a different use case.
Folks who used Snakeoil 0.x before will remember the ISO with a lot of packages stripped out and a custom kernel. That ISO file is somewhat tiny, with a lot of things stripped out, and a lot less running process. The LINUX eco-system changed somewhat and now with a modern kernel you're seeing more processes running (but that's just how they expose the system processes these days). The small ISO is so good, but it's a lot of work, because I simply cannot keep pace with some music players. They don't care for the LTS and stop supporting older LTS once a newer LTS comes out. Only Canonical (makers of Ubuntu) is supporting LTS as it's meant to, and nobody else does it.
But with our existing system, we can do something to strip down the bloat also, i.e. convert conventional Snakeoil into Snakeoil core. A web interface to list all running process and an option to not start them on boot up. This is something in my wish list but yet to implement it.

Hi, AK. It's good to hear from you again. Haha
Guess what?! I've tried the Ubuntu Core. Inside CORE there is no apt command but only snap, also many commands are missing, some can be installed from snap, some can't. I feel l was like a stranger in a big modern city.
Maybe it's good for cas, yet it surely burn you a lot of time if SO would like to cover this.

I doubt it will be good for computer audio, as everything will be "containerised", i.e. it's running in it's own environment and do not get direct hardware access to the DAC. Having said that, this might be useful for my work, so I'm going to investigate CORE in the future.

Got it, Thanks for your concern.
