Test 1.3.1
#1
Hi folks, can somebody help me test 1.3.1 and see if it's any better? For those with problems, are you still using 20.04 LTS? If yes you might need to upgrade to 24.04 LTS... :/

Hmm. Unsure how this build is going to work as I can't seem to find the item LogitechMediaServer in the player list... :/ This likely means the automations missed something... I will see if I can find some time to look into this today.

Apologies.

hi 竟然有1.3.1test了,我来做小白鼠!!! lets go!!

Dragging and dropping the installation for version 1.3.1 will fail; it can only be installed successfully via browsing and selecting.

The update of this version has made a tremendous improvement in sound quality, in my opinion. The details are enriched and much more refined, subtle without being too tight. You can try some songs that used to have fast and chaotic rhythms; you will find that they are no longer as noisy and have become more bearable to listen to. However, due to the overall convergence, there are still some dissatisfactions regarding the naturalness and coherence. This is just what I've noticed from an hour of listening.

Can ignore the APT  does not have a stable CLI interface, that cannot be helped.

It might take a while for me to get back to Snakeoil. Unfortunately caught some bug that knocked me out for a few days with fevers of 38 to 39+.. And temperatures dropped suddenly the day I got sick so I was pretty much comatosed for around 4/5 days... Today I think the fever's finally gone, but the coughing is still nagging me.

RAT negative though, so it's not Covid, but head is still stuffy. And I don't think I ate much past 4 days. What a waste of good HK food. Sad

Will have to meet you another day @hkphantomgtr. Planned to return to HK another 2 days in the next 24 months to re-activate my e-do access so let's catch up later in the year.

On another note, 24.04 LTS should be out in April. Will have to see what to do, modern LTS seems to miss critical libraries which seems to be the source of the new problems we're seeing here. I will need to do some investigation, to buil those missing libraries from scratch, or find an alternative way. I know folks are very unhappy with the progress of Snakeoil in recent years, I will do better. All these problems are solvable. Whether they'll still sound good is the question :/

I am in that camp!  I would love to promote SnakeOil more, but am embarrassed that the 1.3.0 still contain bugs and workarounds.  I do understand your time challenges (and illness has not helped).  Maybe it is time to change the approach to SO development and focus on stability and bug fixes, rather than new features and functions.  Yes, new features and functions are more interesting to do, but without a stable rock solid foundation, SO will lose even more followers, let alone attract a new audience.

With that rant out of the way, 1.3.1 is running on both NUC (22.04.3 LTS) and Mercury CM4 on bookworm.  I have been updating LMS manually, so do not know what 1.3.1 is doing with LMS.  On the NUC, largely bug free.  But on the CM4, NFS libraries still require manual loading.  And update of LMS using browse to select Deb file still gives error that it is the wrong OS.

And if you can create the header page for the Wiki, I can begin writing the 1.3 update procedure.

I'm sorry to say, I'm in this camp, too. I'd love to promote and recommend SO to others, but getting 1.3.0 at first running and then running stable across my various Pis and HATs has taken a lot of patience. At the moment, I don't dare go near 1.3.1, TBH.

Please don't think I'm lining up to hit you, AK, I really am not. But 1.3.x does feel like it was rushed out. I'd prefer stability, too. Possibly 1.4.0 Stability on 24.04 LTS, when you're ready?

Truth be told it almost seems I'm 24/7 on my day job these days. Good news is the product I'm developing has been signed off by the client! Not entirely sure what that means in the overall scheme of things but I'm still gonna take that as good news, as a win.

Granted my day job has been taking a lot of my attention, energy and brain power. But it's my day job, I hope you guys understand. And I hope my organisation will recognise the contributions I made. But honestly unsure if I can just walk away if they don't, and find another equal/better paying job that easily. I have the utmost confidence in my capability and ability, but market conditions (i.e. pure dumb luck) still matters in the real world. Havn't receive any cold calls from recruiters in months, I suspect either my profile in LinkedIn has dropped, or the market isn't as hot as it was 6 months ago.

Anyway - that's what I'm thinking. Scrap 1.3.0 and move on to 1.40 with 24.04 LTS (Late Apr).. Am testing a daily build of 24.04 right now (or rather 2 weeks ago)... To be honest it still feels unpolished. This close to official release is quite concerning..
