After a fair bit of going around in circles, managed to get 16.04/1.1.11 (&1.2 Alpha3) running on VirtualBox and playing music via USB. However, with 20.04/1.2 Alpha3, have problem with network. I do not think I had the problem with 20.04/1.2 Alpha3 install on NUC, but cannot check because I back on 16.04. If this is a VirtualBox problem, then please ignore.
I do get an ip addresss and can SSH into instance. But:
![[Image: NIC.jpg]](https://i.ibb.co/Dz7QwPj/NIC.jpg) Finally figure out what this problem is. System is missing net-tools package. Have updated the installer to install that also.. Still not going to work with netplan for now. Hopefully to fix that in official release.
Also, can't seem to recreate the problem of computer not shutting down properly. This may be due to me running this as a VM under VirtualBox (and Proxmox), or because of some additional changes I have made in Alpha 4... Are you using NFS/CIFS (network file sharing) in your setup or not? I wonder if this could be an issue. (I'm not using file sharing when testing Snakeoil inside a VM). Not using network file sharing. Have enabled bidirectional clipboard and drag and drop.

Alright. Alpha 4 changes:
1. No network info in network page
2. Implemented new way to shutdown server. Unsure if this will actually physically shut down the PC, please let me know
3. Added mDNS support. So [your_snakeoil_name].local should work now
4. Add mympd logging. Generate a diagnostic files and send it to me if it's still have problems loading
5. Some other things I didn't put in the commit logs and forgotten.
Just download and run this installer on your machine. I didn't lose any settings on mine so should work.. :P (Famous last words)

Something wrong with the download ?
Downloaded and moved to the running snakeoil machine but errors on execution...
Code: blunder@snake1:~$ sudo ./snakeoil-installer-1.2.0.4-x86_64.sh
sudo: ./snakeoil-installer-1.2.0.4-x86_64.sh: command not found

Working for me (will report later).
Command should be sudo bash installer

Alpha 4 installs and after a reboot DNS resolution works
myMPD now opens from the link on the player as expected.
Shutdown works and is spectacularly quick....

Initial test report. Checked installation of Alpha4 on VirtualBox. - 16.04/Alpha 3 to Alpha 4 OK. no errors
- 16.04/1.1.11 to Alpha 4 OK, no errors
- 20.04 Ubuntu to Alpha 4, no install errors. Restore from backup remembered RamDisk but not CPUSet. CPUSet is not working
Also updated NUC (my real music server) from Alpha 3 to Alpha4 with no install errors. CPUSet showed more than a dozen processes running using user CPUs. Problem resolved with reboot. Mpd 0.21.25 working, SQ appears to be the same. If I am not mistaken, Alpha 4 does a fresh install of Mpd 0.22.3; took some time to rebuild database. This version of 0.22.3 appears to be close 0.21.25 in sound stage, but need more listening. Mympd appears OK, but have not used it in earnest.
Quick check with LMS and upmpdcli appears OK, works with Tidal.
Will do more testing, including 20.04 install on NUC with Alpha 4. Initial impression of Alpha 4 is good.

Yes, I feel it may be the best mpd version I have heard.... It resolves well (always helpful :-) ) and there is plenty of air and attack around cymbals.... (Oscar Petersen "We get requests" Pogues "Red roses for me" ) (this is a boon for ancient ears such as mine :-).. )
Yet to try it in the listening space for sound-staging but everywhere else it is a noted improvement.
(and this is all before your tweaks Theng Kiat.... )
myMPD works well excepting the cover art. It is not building the album cache for the "Grid view" searching.
Everything else works and it is pleasantly searchable and cover art is rendered in the playback tab. :-)

Can you uncheck cpuset in the install block, save, recheck it again and then see if it works?
I should probably just install cpuset also during install to make things smoother.
Never mind. I think the cpuset commands have changed in 20.04.. Let me try and figure that out and will fix in the next release.

Installing Alpha 4 on Intel NUC 8I5BEH with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (fresh install).

Install successfully ran after that. Note that, after boot, there is no message on attached monitor showing SnakeOil version and iP address.
Other than previously noted CPUSet problem, everything is running OK with both Mpd 0.21.15 and 0.22.3. The 2 players are much closer in SQ than the manually loaded 0.22.3 that I had previously. Mympd is working, but Smart playlist is enabled by default (and I have to clean up, suspect you cannot change this?). Will test other players later. Could be something I regret posting (like last time!), but I think I will keep 20.04...

Got the following error message: Do you have IPv6 enabled in your router? Looks like your Snakeoil PC/VM is trying to go via IPv6 but it can't connect.

I noticed the smart playlists too, kind of like that feature but not sure where it's coming from (MPD or myMPD), will have to take a look into that soon. Will also look into album cover art later this week.
