Connecting Spotify to SnakeOil
#1
Hi, pals.  Look, would you please tell me what's your latest, best, and successful way to let Spotify to play music thru MPD in Snakeoil OS, e.g. Spotify Connect?
As I did not using Spotify at all, I'm just helping an old friend.  So please excuse this silly help request.
Any help will be much appreciated.  Smile

Suggest using LMS plugins to connect streaming services like Spotify.  It is one of the reasons why I switched from Mpd to LMS.

Hey, pals, would you please tell me in which folder I can find the spotifyd.conf or spotify.conf?  Any help will be highly appreciated. Smile

LMS uses a plugin to connect to Spotify. After adding the plugin, there should be a separate web page to configure the Spotify login, password and parameters..There is no need to edit any files.

Perhaps these may help?

Thanks.  I would like to keep using mpd as far as I can.  Because the user (my old friend) may not feel ease to adapt.

Been a long time user of Mpd but the lack of development has been frustrating, And no user forum. Without music streaming, Mpd may become a fringe music player?

In contrast, there is an active community that develops and supports LMS, taking feedback from the user forum. Material Skin is a good interface. Streaming plugins allow a user to easily navigate between local music and online music.

Seems you're implying "Spotify Connect" in Snakeoil Software tab can be removed. Big Grin

Don't use Spotify. Not sure if anyone on SO has used it?

Still believe LMS provides a more comprehensive solution for most music streaming services.  Also no need for AK to support individual streaming music players.

I have written a new Wiki chapter on music streaming services and can now answer your question more thoroughly
https://www.snakeoil-os.net/reference/us...g-services

The only SO music player that connects to Spotify is LMS (Spotty plugin exposes LMS as a Spotify Connect client). LMS does a good job of integrating music streaming services. My Wiki screenshots use Qobuz, but functionality with Spotify should be the same (I don't have Spotify).

MPD does not support music streaming services. In the Wiki, I have suggested using upmpdcli.  upmpdcli is installed together with MPD and both are accessible.  Your friend can continue to use MPD for local music, but can switch to upmpdcli for music streaming services.

Spotify Connect did not migrate to 1.4.3 and there are no plans to do so.  If your friend wants to install Spotify Connect, there are a couple of Linux options at the end of the Wiki article, but not supported by us.  However, he will still need to switch between MPD for local music and Spotify Connect for music streaming services.

LMS provides seamless switching between local music and Spotify.  On this basis, LMS is a better option.

Thanks, Snoopy8.

Despite LMS is much more convenient and eye catching than mpd, the difference in sound is quite clear.

My friend and I still prefer the sound of MPD.  he'll switch to LMS only when he wants to listen Spotify on his system.  And in most of the time he keeps using mpd.
