Alpha Snakeoil Firmware - 1.1.0 (Blind Testing)

I see my DAC (USB via PCIe) and a couple of USB hubs/devices that should not be in use. I also see "SNAKEOIL.MANAGE_USB.NO_DEVICE". Am I supposed to leave that ticked or untick it?

When I untick devices, they might seem to disappear but when I leave the Snakeoil tab and return to it, everything is there and ticked again.
On the screen I see:
hub 3-1:1.0: activate --> -19
hub 3-1.1:1.0: activate --> -19

In my defence doc, it's Alpha.. LOL

Will see what I can do this weekend, and hopefully release an update with all the fixes (as well as some new additions).

I haven't tested everything but it seems to be working smoothly here, with Chrome and my old CAPS Carbon N2800 renderer.  But I have to say that whatever you've done there's been a subtle leap in sound quality--or maybe I just changed something else in my system. ;-)  I've tried Snakeoil as an end-point with Audirvana, or JRiver or whatever.  It's always sounded pretty good but maybe a bit generalized on top, lacking some openness.  But my wife came in to the living room today and said, "This sounds lovely.  Whatever you did, don't change it!"  And she never comments unless it's really that good.  So thanks.  With mpd-dsd-rt and upmpdcli, the sound is just wonderful.

Various issues; might be me  Blush
1.1.0 worked fine (LMS/SL) then one day when I started server, SL failed to start.
Tried MPD but on that YMPD page, I just don't know how to find my music. Am I supposed to enter some path under settings?

Loaded 1.0.9 and that fixed the Squeezelite problem. Same issue with MPD-YMPD.

Today I wanted to try a different network card; one that I think you told me needs the i210 kernel. Tried browse and drag/drop in the System page with either the vmlinuz or .zip file but nothing happens.

Loaded 1.1.0 today and the Squeezelite problem returned. Tried installing i210 kernel and I get the message "invalid extension".

I'm also curious if that kernel is identical to 4.4.9-rt17, except for some network compatibility?

Cheers for any help,
JD

Click on the failed button in music player. What does the logs says?

Have you run MPD before? If not, click 'Update DB' to scan the database.

Do not decompress the kernel file. Just download the file as is, and upload it as it. That should work. Also, kernel upgrades can be dangerous - especially when uploading kernel that requires a different network card. If you lost your network setting you have to connect a keyboard/monitor to your Snakeoil machine to recover. Probably a better idea to hold on that until you're more comfortable using the new GUI.

The downloaded file is a .zip file. As mentioned, 1.1.0 displays an error message saying invalid file extension (even with the .zip file). 1.0.9 says nothing but neither works. I'm using the install/upgrade part of the System tab.

Error log for Squeezelite is:

**** 2018-02-25T18:42:37
**** Squeezelite (ralph-irving-git)

Executable: cd /var/www;_NAME="USB Audio" _OUTPUT="hw:0,0" _FORMAT="dop" _OPTIONS="" _MIPV4="24:4f:4f:24:56:59" /var/www/players/Squeezelite-ralph-irving-git/init /var/www/players/Squeezelite-ralph-irving-git 2>&1;/var/www/players/Squeezelite-ralph-irving-git/start /var/www/players/Squeezelite-ralph-irving-git 2>&1

Hmmm, something has changed.
When I did the first install of 1.10 on 15/2 (I upgraded direct from 1.08), USB options looked like this. Note the top 2 lines:

...and today (by now I had gone 1.08-1.10-1.09-1.10 but don't know when the change 1st appeared). More instructive titles now.

Only the unchecked USB device in photos will stay unchecked. At least the Genesys and Xenran ones won't stay unchecked.

BTW; Squeezelite is working today. Haven't changed anything since yesterday when it failed. I'll monitor it in coming days. Also, I got MPD working.  Still can't upload kernel and I wonder could this be simply because it is a .zip file?  Previous/other kernels have generally been .tar.bz2

Seems the translations are not working for you. Not too sure exactly why, will have to investigate.

Ignore the Xenran entry.. That's a debugging entry I've added for my Accuphase and I forgot to take it out in the alpha release Big Grin. Interesting you have two additional entries with the same USB port address....

Did you download that kernel from the install thread? If so that's meant for the ISO and not for this (probably why it doesn't work)...

So far I tested - Squeezelite Ralph works fine, MPD works fine.. But there could be a special case where it'd fail, if you can recreate the problem, let me know the steps. Once I can recreate it, I'd be able to fix it.

Think I got the i210 kernel from here; https://www.snakeoil-os.net/forums/Threa...t17-Series
...so you are right.  I looked around, including here;  https://www.snakeoil-os.net/forums/Threa...t17-Series
...but found no other links for i210 kernel.  So does one for me (not requiring new iso install) not yet exist or am I missing something else? ...like another link within this website or a method for installing the one I found without doing a new iso install?

Cheers.
