Which player are you using?  If it's mpd, would you mind to try upmpdcli in the software tab?

If it doesn't work, please just remove it.  And then follow the official web site https://www.lesbonscomptes.com/upmpdcli/...tml#ubuntu to install again in the cli.

As @"hkphantomgtr" mentioned, upmpdcli is a UPnP renderer. Also, can enable UPnP rendering in LMS and use Squeezelite as renderer.

MinimServer is also available as a UPnP server.

I use Roon Server in SnakeOil, too.  I'm afraid that Roon doesn't work with DLNA.  If one would like to use DLNA, then the playback software will be something other than Roon Server.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. Roon does not work with UPnP and not likely to. 

Also, UPnP is too risky with no security, hence I no longer allow it on my network.

This is using Roon to Squeezelite bridge, which in turn uses a UPnP plugin.  It is a workaround because Roon does not support UPnP.  

You can do that today with existing functionality. Here is some documentation on Roon

p/s not a Roon user, so cannot help with details...

It has been implemented for DLAN/UPNP through MPD + upmpdcli.
