Recently switched over from Chrome to Firefox on my Google Pixel 8 Pro because the adverts were driving me crazy on my regular sites. Put in an adverts blocker, but SO ads not blocked.
But Firefox is causing problems, one being I cannot see full screen in composing this while phone is in portrait mode! Another is adding a user name with @.

Chrome works but Firefox is not usable.
I know that the forum technology is old and in need of an update. Perhaps this is another reason to do so?
I can get by, using Chrome for the time being with forum. And no issue with Firefox and Wiki.

I'm thinking of switching forums, however, it's the porting of existing users and threads that's going to be difficult (and time consuming).
I'm thinking of just making a hard switch, i.e. switch to a new forum, and have people recreate accounts again to the new forum, and start everything from scratch. This is a good thing because effectively Snakeoil 1.4 is a restart.
I have this nagging feeling this forum software is also going the day of the dodo, the promised update may just never come.
What do you guys think?
Pros of hard switch: - New forum site is a lot easier to maintain/update. This will save me a lot of time with maintenance.
Cons of hard switch: - Going to lose some valuable content (e.g. peoples' showcases), tips/tricks etc
- Half of the SEO will be gone
I suspect eventually this hard move will have to be made.. Just that I am kicking the can down the road for as long as I can (and harden the OS to prevent hacking attacks in the meantime).
Thoughts? @ Snoopy8 maybe add a poll to this so we can gauge sentiment? I'm more in line with a hard switch and restart the community.

Sorry, can't add poll to thread after 12 hours!
Am for hard switch and perhaps recreate or migrate some of the showcases, perhaps push to wiki?. As for tips, they either make it the Wiki or get dumped.

Migrating to a different forum platform is horrible. My thought is that your time would be much better spent working on SO.
You could scrape this forum and host it as static HTML files and set up a new forum on a new platform. You'll lose some people as they won't be bothered to set up a new account, but the most active members will be sure to move on to the new one.
Provided you mirror the URL structure, you shouldn't lose much, if any, of your SEO juice (I'm an SEO by trade, so I know a bit about this ).

Or give up SEO entirely and restart? ![[Image: Uhuhuh.gif]](https://forums.snakeoil-os.net/images/onion/Uhuhuh.gif) Let me think about this for a while and see how it goes. First thing up is check up on myBB and see if there's any update on their next update. Updating the software of this forum is really a PITA and a new forum software will certainly make things easier/quicker (thus allowing me more time to focus on Snakeoil development).

Added a poll here. We are currently using MyBB.
Investigated this for a bit and I think I like discourse, but switching means I will just sunset this forum and make this site read only, and only new content in the new discourse site.
What are your thoughts?
Stick to this and hope myBB will be updated eventually, or just pivot hard? Is there another forum software I should look into (must be free as I cost is a problem).
Please vote above. Note it's not really a democratic process, I'm just polling for insights and see how many is happy with the hard switch.

And noticed that a reply to my post is longer showing up in notifications. Been happening last few weeks?
They are all small things, can be largely ignored but niggles are slowly building up...
