Sorry, can't add poll to thread after 12 hours!

Am for hard switch and perhaps recreate or migrate some of the showcases, perhaps push to wiki?. As for tips, they either make it the Wiki or get dumped.

Yeah, some of the more important stuffs should be in the wiki. I am in for a hard switch too to be honest. And just make this forum read only.

What are SEO?

Search Engine Optimistations. Basically it drives traffic (i.e. ad money) into the forum. But on second though the quality of google searches are terrible these days (landscape is changing) so I'm wondering maybe now it's OK to ignore it.
 

Migrating to a different forum platform is horrible. My thought is that your time would be much better spent working on SO.

Agreed. Transferring the contents from old to new is too time consuming. However, starting a new one from scratch is pretty straight forward.

You could scrape this forum and host it as static HTML files and set up a new forum on a new platform. You'll lose some people as they won't be bothered to set up a new account, but the most active members will be sure to move on to the new one.

Provided you mirror the URL structure, you shouldn't lose much, if any, of your SEO juice (I'm an SEO by trade, so I know a bit about this  ).

Or give up SEO entirely and restart?  Let me think about this for a while and see how it goes. First thing up is check up on myBB and see if there's any update on their next update. Updating the software of this forum is really a PITA and a new forum software will certainly make things easier/quicker (thus allowing me more time to focus on Snakeoil development).
