I am also looking for possible solution, I believe that this plug-in for MPD should work:

MPD download | SourceForge.net

I am wondering how MPD is installed on Snakeoil host so that I could apply the plug-in, can Agent Kith shed some light?

Update: Just experimented running Snakeoil in LXC container, it throws some errors while installation but still managed to work, final decision is using a dedicated PC for better sound.
