Interesting... As some of the commenters said, use sparingly, too much damping can kill the sound.

This reminds me of the best setup I have heard so far (the guy who inspired me to tune Hifi systems - Kajak12). He doesn't use a case for his TDA-1541 DAC. Effectively his DAC is unshielded, but putting the case back actually makes the sound worse. So absorbing these interferences internally sounds like a good tweak.
