Try the NVME kernel here and see if it works.

No easy way to easily create custom kernels at the moment. Think probably about time I start working on this, however, still need a power server to host this - as compiling the kernel requires space and CPU power. Hosting this is going to be more expensive than hosting this website.

I have Cambridge Audio dacmagic Azur with USB 1.1 and spdif optical out. Confirmed working.

The server is HP t520 with 8gb SSD 4gb ram.
LMS recognised the USB player and it plays music. I prefer the Touch as network bridge, but if I didn't have this, the USB player would be acceptable.

Update, I connect with a USB printer cable, Cambridge Audio dacmagic to the t520 thin client, not an optical toslink cable.

I have a Nobsound USB isolator between the two now, and the sound is clear and no hiss, except where recorded.

I'm listening to Everything but the girl, I don't want to talk about it, and the electric guitars are thrumming, and a repeated deep bass note is evident that was not distinct before.

This is as good as the Pioneer CD player which in turn is better than LMS sound.

Reading reviews of the isolator, it serves up to USB 2.0, not high speed. It may add artifacts if it is used in an inappropriate context.

This setup works great:
  • SnakeOil = Version: 1.1.7 / OS: Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS / Kernel: 4.4.9-rt17-snakeoil-x64
  • MB = Asus P8H77-I
  • CPU = Intel Core I3-2100T
  • SSD = Intel 545S 128GB
  • RAM = Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/8G (2x4GB)
  • Case:
    • HDPlex H3.S
    • HDPlex Linear PSU
    • HDPlex Hi-Fi DC-ATX
  • Music Player/Server = JRiver MC 25
    • Setting = Bitstreaming (Plays DSD to the Primare PRE35 DAC (via DoP))

  • USB cable = The Chord Company Shawline USB
  • USB regenerator = UpTone USB Regen + UltraCap LPS-1
  • Ethernet Cable = Chord Company Shawline Streaming
  • Ethernet Isolator = Acoustic Revive RLI-1 LAN Isolator

  • DAC (Pre Amplifier) = Primare PRE35 Prisma

Works fine on the Acer Aspire X3900. It's an old socket 1156 system - first gen i3 560.
Onboard audio is the Realtek ALC888 - Optical works, 3.5mm Analog works. HDMI shows as an available output but haven't tried it.

Current (temporary) setup that is working pretty well:
Sony VPCS111FM with 8GB ram and I5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz  (Wife's Laptop  Big Grin  - i'll swap disks when she needs to use it)
128GB SSD (That's more "definitive")

I have 2 Dacs that i'm currently testing and both seems to work well: Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 100 and HRT Music streammer III
(With the HRT i see this messages in log: "usb 2-1.1: current rate 4500480 is different from the runtime rate 44100" - But it seems to play well. Anything to worry?)

Music is stored in Homemade Nas (Xigmanas) and shared to SnakeOil by CIFS

Did try to put that disk in a Asus eeebox 1036 that i have around and not used, but UEFI crap didn't "allow" me to do it  Angry  (i'll make another post about that and some other doubts that i may have)

Great Piece of software - Immediately saw improvement over previous setup with Quod Libet in my normal usage pc , an old Asus Rog G51 with exactly same dacs used and Ubuntu 20.04.
Congrats Agent Kith. Thanks for such great piece of software.  Thumbs Up

That number 4500480 doesn't seem to be divisible by 44100 or 48000.. So it's probably just a startup bug. During playback the rate will always be set to whatever the source material is anyway so it's not a worry at all.

Happy to report that my Snakeoil Ideal(ish) Server plays without any issue to Clay Gieseler's Konverter DAC/pre. This one has the AK 4497 chip.

For the record, my Gieseler Klein ll plays too (AK4490).

Also, excellent results from Snakeoil server via USB to the DAC part of my Oppo 205 player.

And I've just replaced a Clones Audio Shaar Deluxe USB card with the new JCAT USB Card XE; it just played, no dramas. (Really well too).

Can confirm both the Gieseler Gross and Denafrips Ares II DACs work beautifully in both MPD and LMS.....but I prefer the MPD for raw DSD playback.
