RE: Snakeoil 1.4.0 (High End) - Mike A - 24-Jan-2025

RPi 5 install worked perfectly but  AMD and Intel machines give me "No audio devices detected".

lsusb and dmesg both show the device attached.

Any ideas anyone?

What does 'aplay -l'  return ?
What base Ubuntu. ( Server install ?)
What make/model is the USB DAC ?

RE: Snakeoil 1.4.0 (High End) - Mike A - 25-Jan-2025

It was an older version of glibc causing the problem on the 14.04 server download I had on my desktop, a "quick" release update fixed the problem.

Thank you @Bromf for pointing me in the right direction.

What version of Ubuntu are you using and is it the desktop version?

Good to hear it is all working !

I'm guessing thats a typo (14.04) and from your report you had downloaded Ubuntu server 24.04 prior to AK's release of SO and used it as base. However, as you found it needed package/s updated.

For anyone else finding this please use the current Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS  server version as SO base.

Yes, typo. Read that post three times and still missed it...

Hi,
I'm running Snakeoil 1.3.0 on a Raspberry Pi 4B that I got up and running a few months ago with Snoopy8's assistance. When attempting to upgrade to 1.4.0 it seems my system is lacking something:

I persisted with the apt update and apt upgrade -y commands which seemed to go OK but the do-release-upgrade command gave the following message:

After an internet search I tried:

What am I missing?

You cannot upgrade from 1.3 Bookworm and must be a new install of Ubuntu 24.04.  If you have music or other data stored on the Pi4, please do backup...

Happy to assist if you run into issues with Ubuntu 24.04 or 1.4

Thanks Snoopy8,
I have had a look at the Ubuntu website, Install Unbuntu Core with Raspberry Pi Imager seems the way to go. I will have to get a Micro SD card before I can start.

Not necessary to go to Ubuntu website. In the Pi installer, select Ubuntu 24.04 server.  Have not tried Core, not sure it will work?

And good practice to have several microSD cards and keep one as the master.  That way, you can always go back if things go wrong.
