A ripping project ideae/help - Coacharnold - 05-Mar-2025 So I'm building a SOS for a friend, and I'm hoping to add the Automatic Ripping Machine as a Docker app. https://github.com/automatic-ripping-machine/automatic-ripping-machine My idea is to integrate the CD ripping feature into SOS . to install ARM there needs to be an "arm" user with which to run under. My first attempt at this, I installed SOS as a regular user, then created a separate arm user to run the ARM docker app. As you can already see the issue i had with this set up is that I couldnt sort out permissions. I could not get Lyrion to scan the folder set up by arm to put the ripped files. I played aroud with soft linking foilders and permisions to try and get it to work, nothing. Anybody here have any thoughts here? My next step is to rebuild the whole thing from scratch and install SOS after Ive built the arm user. To install the SOS as the arm user. thogiuhts/opinions? Tim RE: A ripping project ideae/help - agent_kith - 05-Mar-2025 Use something like abcde to rip? I might add that in as a feature in one of the later updates. ARM is an all in one ripping macine that differentiates and rips DVD's , BLue rays, and CDs. when it identifies a CD it runs ABCDE and sticks it in a music folder. My hope was to have both running on the same machine. There seems to be some permissions issues preventing it from working. RE: A ripping project ideae/help - Snoopy8 - 05-Mar-2025 For a long long time, I was using Exact Audio Copy (EAC) which as its name implies, is perfect. However EAC was getting long in the tooth. I switched over to dbPoweramp, which made life much easier, and faster. To my surprise, there was a small improvement in SQ. To get a bigger jump, ground the the drive and laptop. This episode did lead to re-ripping the whole collection... So, ripping software and how you rip does matter... At the end of the day the checksums that say your RIP is perfect doesn't really matter, I still don't understand that. Sadly, this is all in the past now as CDs are getting so rare these days in Australia. Vinyls is in. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just that digital audio done right can be very good also. RE: A ripping project ideae/help - Snoopy8 - 09-Mar-2025 So, will adding ripping software into SO make things better?? RE: A ripping project ideae/help - Coacharnold - 10-Mar-2025 It's simply an option that would be nice to have. How do I set a local folder to a part of the library... Right now I'm trying to get the folder that abcde rips to, to be seen by LMS. I don't know. To be honest I have never ripped any CDs via a RT kernel, and it has been many years since I last do a red book RIP (or movie RIP for that matter). And to be frank, even if it's better it'll be very unlikely I will re-rip the thousands of CDs that I have (I have no idea if they're still working to be honest as CD itself seem to decay after a few decades) (10-Mar-2025, 11:15 AM)Coacharnold Wrote: It's simply an option that would be nice to have.Just set the folder to anywhere within /media/music. That will be picked up automatically by LMS and also MPD. Here's what I did: ARM and ABCDE wants to rip to /home/user/music .. so I made a soft link of the music folder in /media/music. LMS wouldn't scan the soft linked folder. When I moved the recently ripped album folder directly into /media/music it scanned fine. I also tried to adjust the output settings for ABCDE to go directly into /media/music and got hit with all sorts of permissions errors. Right now I'm running SOS and the ARM docker process from user " ARM" .
