New setup, query about output and adding functionality - shaitan667 - 25-Jan-2020 Have a newly setup Snakeoil server, and I'm pretty happy so far. I'm using the onboard audio on the PC for output to an amplifier via optical. The onboard audio is Intel HD Audio, which uses the Realtek ALC888 chipset. The amplifier is a Yamaha HTR-6030 home theatre receiver. I've disabled all crossfeed and volume control in the software. With this setup, would it actually be bitstreaming to the DAC in the receiver? Or would the onboard audio be processing it? The onboard audio and the receiver are supposed to be capable of 24bit/192kHz but when playing flacs at this format, I get silence. 24/96 is fine. I would like to use Airsonic for remote playback. Is it possible to install Docker as per normal Ubuntu? If not, would installing Airsonic normally mess with Snakeoil's WebUI server? RE: New setup, query about output and adding functionality - Bromf - 25-Jan-2020 I have a Yamaha HTR-6030 and the highest sampling via optical seems to be 24/96...that's all it ever recognises for me.. What happens when you use the coax digital input ? From the owners manual..Pg14 Quote:DIGITAL AUDIO COAXIAL jacks RE: New setup, query about output and adding functionality - shaitan667 - 25-Jan-2020 (25-Jan-2020, 04:43 PM)Bromf Wrote: I have a Yamaha HTR-6030 and the highest sampling via optical seems to be 24/96...that's all it ever recognises for me.. What happens when you use the coax digital input ? Ah right, thanks! I did download the manual earlier.... I don't have SPDIF out on the PC unfortunately. 24/96 will do just fine. Need to have a look at resampling config. I don't have that much at 192kHz. Also need to figure out how to resample the DSF files I have . Not sure if I'm better having the player resample on the fly, or just convert them all to WAV. Also have some SACD ISOs I probably need to do the same with I ended up just installing Plex on the server, easier to deal with. Then can Chromecast to the living room setup. RE: New setup, query about output and adding functionality - shaitan667 - 26-Jan-2020 Got the activation code last night after joining patreon ![]() Spent all afternoon yesterday listening using LMS. Really enjoyable experience. Trying MPD v20 today. I have MPD resampling to 96kHz now, eg 192 and DSF are getting downsampled to 96kHz, but 44.1 and 48 are getting upsampled to 96. Need to have a look at the manual for mpd to get it just resampling files higher than 96. I have an SACD rip of Hotel California by The Eagles and also a 24/192 version. Listened to Life In The Fastlane, and the latter version sounds a bit more crisp I think. I have a few different versions of The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails as well (my favourite band) - the 24/96 definitive edition, the SACD version in DSF, the SACD version in FLAC, and I think a 24/192 vinyl rip. Will be doing some listening of em all later on A bug in the WebUI I noticed - my CPU is an i3 530, which is 2 core, 4 thread, but the ui shows 4 cores, 8 threads. I've also enabled a 10GB RAM drive (system has 14GB total), so will try playing from RAM shortly and see how it goes. Probably the Intel Hyper-threading where each core lists as 2... ![]() Enjoy..!! Doubled your capabilities at no cost !! Go Snakeoil !!! Lol ![]() |
