That could be a bad download. Can you delete everything in /media/snakeoil_cache and run the script again?

This is OS specific I believe, as such I should be able to try 23.10 on a Pi 4 and see how it goes. Will try and find some time this weekday, otherwise it'll be the weekend again.

Thanks. I'll try it again before the weekend if I can.

RE: Snakeoil 1.3.0 Alpha 2 - uglymusic - 01-Dec-2023

A quick update:

Alpha 2 has been running without a hiccup on my 8GB RPi 4 for some time now (over a week?). I'm not sure about this, but could there be more clicks at the start of tracks as the bit-depth/sampling rate changes. Has anyone else noticed this?

RPi 5:

I cannot get SO to install on Ubuntu 23.10 64-bit Server. I've tried five times or more, now. I have the same error that AK thought might be a download problem.

I can get SO to install on Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm, but LMS is unstable.

Side topic a bit as this is something that's always on the back of my mind. What DAC are you using? Clicking (on the DAC?) is normal as the data changes. If that's the sound of a relay. To be honest I'm always paranoid that part will wear out (as it's a physical part), so I always play the same format tracks each session.

I know that is just me being stupid, as not using the relay may actually make it worse (will it get stuck/sticky?)

Hopefully I can install 23.10 on my Pi 4 and see what's happening. (You might actually need to run the bookworm script for 23.10 but I'll need to double check).

Hmmm. Download a newer version (maybe 8.4.x?) from here: https://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/

Drop it in the install window (or install it manually) and see if it's any better?

The DAC is an iQ Audio HAT that's in my office system. I haven't got round to installing Measurements on it, so if there are clicks, it is most likely(!) down to the Alpha software installed on my server.

I'm going to move on to the Beta and try your suggestions there if the problems persist.
