If so, then another reason to pursue this enhancement ... I'm only aware of RAM OS for Intel/AMD machines. Unsure if we can do the same with Pi5... I guess at the end of the way it's possible to create a tmpfs partition, move all the files into that and then chroot to that tmpfs and everything will run in RAM. However I do not really see any benefits of doing so on Pi since most boards are 4/8GB. Even the 16G model looks a bit thin. And then there's the time required to copy the files from micosd/ssd to RAM. In the past I have a stripped down Ubuntu OS that's really small, but that is no longer true now with 1.3 and 1.4 series. I am unsure if anyway is happy to startup their system, wait for Snakeoil to copy files for 10+ minutes before music can play. From memory (pun?), booting Snakeoil via PxE and cpuset, in my system cpuset is a far better tweak. I do not recall loading the OS in RAM is mind blowing for me, if it was I would have kept using it. RE: [split] Possible To Load Snakeoil OS in RAM - Snoopy8 - 31-May-2025 I was curious about piCorePlayer which runs on piCore Linux, a very small embedded Linux distribution that is designed to run primarily in RAM. It only uses the SD card for booting and storing persistent settings. The SQ is poor compared with the Pi5 running LMS on SO 1.4.3. FWIW, I settled on MoOde before I moved to SO, and I've tried all of the obvious ones. It is a Linux system based (I Believe SLAX linux) music server that runs LMS and a very nice graphical front end of ABCDE for cd audio ripping. It runs completely in ram. When the system boots, it loads the entire os into ram and goes from there. I stopped using it only because I liked the way snake oil was going a little more. The way they did updates was pretty interesting, it came down the pipe as a complete image. the entire OS. It was a little frustrating, as you were locked into their configuration. more or less thats why I switched over to SOS. Still it is a great system, I keep a copy of it on a USB in case I need a music server fast for some reason.
