Sorry, you cannot use the Raspberry Pi OS. You have to use Ubuntu 24.0 Server (or Desktop).

RE: new install issues - rrunner - 07-May-2025

I have tried creating Ubuntu 24.0 server arm image version using rasberry pi imager. On SD card as well as usb drive but for some reason all I see is a 5mb drive with efi folder and an additional drive which is unreadable in windows. When i try inserting either of these for boot in Rpi4, it is not showing the grub screen or booting up.

I used SnakeOil on pi4 before.  I suppose you've chosen the correct device and os in Raspberry Imager to burn.  Then it's strange, as at that stage it's rather straightforward.

Are you using the latest Raspberry Pi Imager?  And tried another SD card?   This what the SD card should look like in Win after running through process.

I have also updated Wiki with screenshots of install process.

Pi boots differently. There is no grub option for Pi. How you boot is defined in the the partition you can read on Windows. After you imaged the card, just insert it into the Pi and wait patiently. It might take a while (depending on your microsd class) when doing this for the first time.

Note you can flash the Pi image into a SSD and boot to a SSD these days. This will be a lot faster but make sure you use a good quality power supply (so far the stock Pi PSUs have this high frequency pitch when on load so I don't think they're any good - it's also annoying).

RE: new install issues - rrunner - 07-May-2025

Strange issue, I am now able to boot but the ethernet lan or wifi is not getting an ip assigned. So unable to perform any updates. Have enabled ssh and wifi settings in config during imaging.

Is the boot.scr a temporary file which will disappear after first boot?

Did you set fixed ip, or dhcp?

RE: new install issues - rrunner - 08-May-2025

I had fixed ip and mac reservation earlier, now I removed it but issue remains.

Maybe just another fresh installation, it's quick.  I've encountered same problem before.  Sometimes can be fixed by removing these seeing, but not everytime.

Is Ubuntu Core 24 sufficient for snakeoil os, I just realized I am still having trouble with install on rpi4 2gb version. Networking is not getting enabled and ports are not functioning.
