Got the following error message:
Do you have IPv6 enabled in your router? Looks like your Snakeoil PC/VM is trying to go via IPv6 but it can't connect.
IPv6 has been enabled on router, but will investigate further.

Nice. Thanks for testing. I noticed the smart playlists too, kind of like that feature but not sure where it's coming from (MPD or myMPD), will have to take a look into that soon. Will also look into album cover art later this week.
Smart Playlist is definitely in Mympd; it generates 60 playlist based on genre.  A nuisance, but not a show stopper.

20.04 with Alpha4 on Intel NUC

Players tested:
  • LMS 8 (manually updated to 8.1.1) and upmpdcli running, with Tidal and local files
  • MinimServer 2 starter edition
  • Mpd 0.21.25 and 0.22.3;  interesting that TOP showing 0.22.3 load is less than 20% of 0.21.25, at times hardly showing any load!
Update Ubuntu went OK, no errors.

Networking tab: showing eth0 and wlan0; 16.04 showing only eth0.
Music library tab: Mounted partitions showing /boot, /boot/efi, not in 16.04.

Unless there are specific questions, am done with testing Alpha 4.  And back to listening to music...

Finally managed to build everything for the Raspberry Pi (32 bit buster).. Will work on the installer soonish. Unsure how to test this yet as I don't think I have enough micro-sd cards. Will have to find creative ways to work around the problem.

RE: Snakeoil Gear Isolation Alpha Series - Bromf - 08-Mar-2021

Pi3 onward will boot from USB so just write to a pen-drive with whatever you currently use for microSD...(Etcher works here)
You may need to first run...and toggle USB boot from ...
Code:
raspi-config

RE: Snakeoil Gear Isolation Alpha Series - Snoopy8 - 08-Mar-2021

Minor glitch with MinimServer install on 20.04/Alpha4.  On Music Player tab, cannot bring up Remote Control: MinimServer, and thus unable to configure.  Problem solved by uninstalling MinimServer and re-installing.

Also, cannot stop MinimServer and start another player e.g. Mpd 0.22.3   Have to reboot.

Noted. Will try and fix this in the next release.

In other news... I've got a job! At least in the short time there's no worries about finances. Truth be told revenues from this project can't even cover the increased cost of my home Internet connection Tongue. But I'm not doing Snakeoil for the money, it's just the joy of sharing high quality music playback with the rest of you guys.

Now with a job, I can't dedicate as much time on Snakeoil  as I did in the past 2 months. Nothing is set in stone yet as I'm still on probation, and I'm only taking on a short six month role. Snakeoil development will be slowed down somewhat, but it's not going to stop. Just means I can mostly work on Snakeoil during the weekends, and probably unlikely to do so on weekdays.

I'll still try and respond support wise as much as I can (but it'll be after 6pm most weekdays). Anyway, wish me luck Smile.

That is indeed good news.

I don't think you are that far away with 1.2, with Alpha4 good enough for me to continue using. Maybe, still more work with Pi release?

Anyway, best of luck with new contract...

I second that !!  Alpha 4 is solid here....

Dear Master! Let me express my opinion based on the experience of using this product: there are no competitors even close in terms of sound quality, efforts should be directed to creating a kernel-rt and a patch for native DSD, because sound quality is the goal of the project.

That's the plan. Will be getting a second bare metal server on top of the one sponsored by @JD1. Combined there will be enough horsepower to do that.

And the results will be amazing, as it will allow you guys to test the various versions (this is really a time consuming process)...

The goal is not exactly "sound quality". It's the ability for the individual audiophile to tailor the sound quality as they see fit.. E.g. in my small setup with bookshelves speakers I give up bass for clarity. Other folks with bigger systems can use a kernel that delivers room shaking low end. <-  All from a simple kernel change (and some tweaks)...

My contract is only for 6 months, and to be honest no idea if if they will extend my employment or not later (COVID-19 and what not is really making things uncertain). But at least now I will have the funds to get a second machine up for this. And I guess if more people take up this project, there may be more money or sponsorships coming in, that can continue the project. Guess I can only work with what I have. Big Grin
